In 2007, Christina Apostolidou, her husband Simon Cohen and their friend of 10 years Matthieu Le Blan formed a creative collaboration from which 291 Venice (291) was born. The company was founded on the trio’s life passions, giving way to a Spring 2008 debut collection that reflected their shared love of nature and community, rooted in the bohemian spirit of Venice, CA, where they all reside. Design Director Christina Apostolidou was born in Greece, where her love for fashion was kindled and a sophisticated approach to the island lifestyle influenced her aesthetic sensibilities. Adolescent years spent throughout Europe led to an expansive career in the fashion industry, where Apostolidou gained experience in trend analysis and cultivated lasting relationships with key retailers. Apostolidou and her husband Cohen, along with their longtime friend Le Blan, launched 291 with a decidedly organic formula in place, combining their respective creativity, connections, and experience with a shared vision. Cohen brought his background of fashion heritage in both quality and innovation, paired with his experience as President of Michael Stars, the family business. Le Blan took on the role of Creative Director, where years of venerable experience in graphic design and running his own label would allow for the creative realization of the 291 philosophy. Today, Apostolidou and husband Cohen frequently travel the world, allowing her to draw inspiration from the nomadic charm of their rustic destinations. Le Blan continually looks to his experience in fashion design and his laid-back, eco-conscious lifestyle to form his artistry. The three often travel together from Venice, CA—where they all live—to Sayulita, Bali and Peru. Cohen and Le Blan still close up shop, surfboards in tow, whenever the sun is out and the surf beckons.
